The Psychgeist Of Pop Culture: The Witcher

Vesemir presents a stunning example of a character that holds numerous different roles: leader, 
father figure, survivor. However, the common thread through all of these roles is his dedication 
to service. Vesemir’s entire existence is spent in service to those around him. Whether it be his 
work in rebuilding the Witcher order after the destruction of Kaer Morhen, his role as a father 
figure to Geralt and a grandparent to Ciri, or his overall role as leader of the School of The Wolf, 
Vesemir carries the burden of stewardship and responsibility for others. In this chapter, we will 
explore Vesemir’s paternalistic leadership across relationships and events and dive in to the 
difficulties Vesemir faces in navigating his enmeshed roles, the involuntary origins of many of 
the responsibilities he takes on, as well as his harshly affectionate approach to bringing up not 
only individual witchers like Geralt and Ciri, but serving as a father figure to the School of The 
Wolf as a whole.
